Our Pool Physiotherapy Rehab Program is a small-group aquatic physiotherapy session led by a licensed physiotherapist. Held at the Rainbow Road Community Centre pool, each session includes up to 3 participants, allowing for individualized attention in a supportive and low-impact environment.

In each session, patients learn how to use the water for therapeutic exercises, stretches, and pain relief strategies tailored to their specific injury or condition. The buoyancy of the water reduces pressure on joints, making it easier to build strength and improve mobility with less pain.

Benefits of Pool Physiotherapy
- Low-Impact Exercise: Water reduces joint stress, making movement easier and safer.
- Buoyancy & Pain Relief: Supports body weight, easing joint pain and improving balance.
- Gentle Strength Building: Water resistance builds muscle without strain.
- Better Balance & Coordination: Controlled water movements enhance stability and motor control.
- Faster Recovery: Encourages early, comfortable movement after surgery.

Who Can Benefit?
- Post-surgical patients (e.g. joint replacements, ligament
repairs, spinal surgeries)
- Individuals with osteoarthritis, lower back pain, or
- Patients experiencing chronic pain or reduced mobility
- Those living with rheumatoid arthritis or autoimmune conditions
- Patients experiencing pain with traditional land based exercise
- Patients looking to get involved in aquatic exercise but are unsure of what exercises are best suited for their goals

Rob Cosma is a Registered Physiotherapist who brings a compassionate, evidence-based approach to movement and rehabilitation. He believes that true recovery and wellbeing come not only from addressing physical symptoms, but also from empowering patients with the knowledge and tools to reconnect with their bodies and restore confidence in movement.

As a physiotherapist, Rob has experience working with a broad range of populations including post-surgery patients, job-related injuries, performance athletes, and those navigating complex musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Drawing from his training in manual therapy, movement science, and vestibular rehab, Rob crafts individualized treatment plans that reflect both his clinical expertise and each patient’s unique goals. He has a special interest in knee and ankle injuries and post-operative rehab, but enjoys treating patients from all walks of life.

Before his career in physiotherapy, Rob gained experience as a kinesiologist while training as a high level competitive swimmer, and working as a lifeguard and swimming teacher in his home city of Vancouver. Shortly after completing his studies in kinesiology at UBC, Rob travelled abroad to Scotland to complete his physiotherapy education, and moved to Vancouver Island upon his return to Canada. Rob’s time in the UK hospital system and his clinical private practice in Campbell River have given him the opportunity to gain experience in multiple specializations in physiotherapy, and integrate these different schools of thought for a unique treatment approach.

Rob is a lifelong advocate for inclusive and holistic care, and his sessions are a collaborative space where patients are seen, heard, and supported throughout their recovery. Rob believes in the importance of listening deeply and embracing humour every day.

As a newcomer to Salt Spring, Rob looks forward to learning from his patients and becoming a part of the community. Outside of his clinical practice, he can be found exploring the island by bike, learning to sail, and freediving with his fiancée, Anna, and their sassy Border Collie mix, Edna.
